“Chinese Cuisine Eating House” or Chinese & Seafood Restaurant since decades being frequently practiced in our nations all presenting & running on respective family’s generations & home recipes easily found everywhere. But here in the southern district, we found and successfully recognised a very amazing Khoo couple who carried their career from couple untill married into their 38th years in the field since 1982, named recently the “Like Seven Restaurant” in Johor.
The Segamat local originated Mr. Khoo Ah King (born 1963), who was the founder, together with his wife Madam Tan Su Lui (born 1965) both are the current immediate owners of this best recommended chinese cuisine eating house “Like Seven Restaurant” at Segamat, Johor introducing their very home recipe selections to the locals & visitors now in better manner under a roof. Also having great response from the market nowadays.
Khoo Ah King also called “Ah Che”, meaning of ‘Seven(7)’, who positioned in number 7th in his family initially touched the f&b industry since his age of only 13 years old working as Kopikia (Kopitiam young helper) in chinese coffee shop for about 5 years. Then fully stepped into the career began as kitchen trainee under-employed in hometown Segamat made him experienced the field at his 18th of age in year 1981. Later-on running his very owned roadside foodstall along Jalan Sultan, Bukit Siput serving noodles & rice selections for 34 years, being assisted by wife Su Lui since 1980s.
With the experiences hold by Ah Che (Khoo Ah King), vision to have his very owned eating house and having great supports from his son (Khoo Lai Lai). Added with foreseeing the market opportunity in the industry, and wish to provide better environment for their visitors allowed him in year 2014 successfully moved & established his very first chinese cuisine eating house named “Like Seven Restaurant” at Taman Bukit Indah, Segamat continue presenting their signature menus to the public. Finally being recognised as the best in town year 2018.
In this Like Seven Restaurant, the founder’s very first top recommended in menus will be their home-cooked “Three (3) Cups Pork Trotter” which prepared with ginger & wine. Local fresh pork trotter selected, boil-cooked with garlic, red wine, dried chilli and ginger, then stewed an hour and finally served boiled in claypot topped with basil leaves brings wonderful sweet, fair spicy & wine exotic taste you must try. Also the pork trotter bites texture itself into mouth and natural collagen brought out, will neither found elsewhere in town.
Secondly will be their very famous signature selection “Monkey Mee”, which only in Like Seven Restaurant favourite by their visitors recently. Round-yellow flour noodles wok-fried with home recipe soy sauce mixture, minced pork, chilli & chicken egg, followed by about 10 minutes stewed, served in ‘normal looking’ but taste amazing totally different from the other fried noodles in town that brings excellent salty sweet & nice slight spicy taste you cannot aside.
Another will be their “Dried Chilli & Onion Mantis”, or locally well-known as ‘Kong Pao Har Po”. Baby mantis meats prepared in uncoated, flour-up in recipes followed by deep fried, then stir-fried seconds mixed with onions, gingers, dried chillis & homemade sauce paste (made from more than 10 ingredients) brings good crispy bites on deep-fried mantis itself and the sweet & spicy taste into mouth you will never regret after tasted here.
While in fish or seafood corner, the owners’ also introduced their restaurant’s daily top seller “Cantonese HK Steamed Red Talapia” which most wanted by their regular customers. Local feeded red Talapia fish with about 700 grams weight selected, steam-cooked in around 10 minutes, then served with poured onto their homemade soy sauce mixture & topped with deep fried garlic shredded brings unbelievable sweetie fish freshness itself to be the best Hong Kong style steamed fish you really cannot missed when stepped into this recognised “Like Seven Restaurant” chinese cuisine eating house at Bukit Siput, Segamat (Johor).
