The Mentakab (Pahang) local originated Mr. Lai Kok Pin (born 1960), was the restaurant’s founder, together with his wife Ms. Kiung Muk Li (born 1976) and son Mr. Daniel Lai Leong Soon (born 1992) are the immediate recent owners of this recognised Hainanese Chicken Rice Shop “Restoran Bao Bei” along Jalan Zabidin, Mentakab presenting their very traditional authentic family’s generations hainanese chicken rice recipes to the locals and visitors in better manner since year 2017 (new location).

Lai Kok Pin, the 2nd generation who at his age of 58 years old currently, since teenage been touched the field helping parents in their roadside foodstall selling Sotong Kangkong in the 1970s. Then fully stepped into the f&b industry in year 1992 at his 32nd of age after parents’ career moved into shoplot began their family’s home recipe hainanese chicken rice recipes which brought into by Kok Pin’s sister-in-law running under a roof reached year 2017 in the Mentakab township, where his wife Muk Li joined the field.

In this Restoran Bao Bei, the owners’ very first top recommended in menus surely will be their home-cooked “Boiled White Chicken” which most wanted by locals. Local feeded fresh meat-chicken with weight of about 2.2-2.4kg commonly selected, boiled in plain water for about half an hour, followed by soaked in ice-water then served in cutted pieces accordingly with cucumber slices and poured onto their home-mixed soy sauce (from 4 ingredients mixtures), finally served topped onto deep fried onion & slight sesame oil will brings wonderful authentic delicious hainanese boiled chicken that you must try when reached Mentakab, Pahang. Especially the nice exotic salty taste and chicken meat’s bites texture into mouth.

Secondly of course will be their signature “Roasted Chicken”, which among the restaurant’s daily top seller all the while. Same local feeded fresh chicken firstly boiled minutes in rock sugar broth mixed with vinegar & some chinese herbals mixture, then followed with about 15 minutes deep fried to cooked, finally served in cutted pieces on cucumber slices and poured onto their home recipe soy sauce will brings excellent roasted chicken that you will never regret after tasted here. Tipping onto their “Homemade Chilli Paste/Sauce” prepared in-house in mixtures of red chillis, gingers, garlics, onions, salt & white vinegar with exciting sour & spicy taste that favourite by their regular customers.

To complete a set of their Hainanese Chicken Rice, surely cannot aside their home-cooked “Hot Boiled Rice” which prepared in their family’s generations recipes. Mixtures of 2 different quality rice, boiled half an hour with their in-house chicken soup base mixed into eating salt, chicken stock, garlic, ginger, onion, pandan leaf & butter will brings amazing rice smoothness and tasty ‘Chicken Rice’ (oil rice) that neither found the same nor better in town.
