“Hainanese Steamed Buns” or locally known Steamed Pau is a kind of Chinese (Hainanese) traditional steamed buns which commonly served with fillings been taken and famously practised on our nation, believed that was brought into by the Hainanese migrants since decade. Nowadays becoming among the local’s favourite eatery presented by carrier on respective recipes. The Tawau, Sabah originated Mr. Chok Ken Chung (born 1964), was the immediate founder, together with his wife Madam Chong Yen Lee (Sandakan born, 1964) and sons Chok Siew Peng (born 1990) & Chok Siew Cheng (born 1992) all are the recent owners of this best recognised Hainanese Steamed Pau kopitiam “Uncle’s Pau Cafe” along Batu 6, Sandakan serving all their homemade steamed pau selections and other signature menus on foods & beverages under a roof running into their 4th subsequent calender year in town on home recipes.

Founder Chok Ken Chung, who at his age of 55 years old currently, was formerly all the while in Recycle Trading Industry at hometown Tawau, Sabah later-on quit the career in circumstances. Initially was approached by a friend of him who holding the Hainanese Steamed Pau recipes, been given a chance to generation passed onto his (Pau Master) home recipes allowed Siew Cheng (Ken Chung’s younger son) to experience the field in Tawau wishing to expose further in the f&b industry. Added with the foreseeing market opportunity in the industry enabled them (Chok family) reached Sandakan and successfully established their very first & owned kopitiam (chinese coffee shop) named “Uncle’s Pau Cafe” at Bandar Utama, Sandakan in year 2015 introducing their homemade steamed pau selections to the locals and visitors in manner. Also being successfully recognised the best in town by the F&B E-Media for year 2019.

In this Uncle’s Pau Cafe, the owners’ very first top recommended among their pau menus will be the famous “Big Pau”(Da Pau) which most wanted by the locals all the while. In-house hand-rubbed flour in size filled with the mixtures of home recipe marinated chicken cubes, pork slices, chinese sausage & boiled chicken egg, then finally served hot after about 20 minutes steamed will brings an excellent huge Hainanese Big Pau that you must try when reached Sandakan, Sabah. Especially the bun’s bites texture itself and the tasty fillings into mouth which you cannot aside here.

Secondly will be their “Char Siew Pau” or Roasted Pork Bun, which among the cafe’s daily top seller favourite by most of the visitors here. Home prepared minced pork marinated on their 6 home recipe ingredients mixture, cooked in-house then filled into their hand-rubbed flour, and finally served after about 15 minutes steamed will brings wonderful juicy bites fillings and exotic tasty sweet roasted pork into mouth that neither found the same elsewhere in town.

Another will be their “Butter Milk Pau”, which like by most of their regular customers. Fillings (butter milk paste) prepared in mixtures of chicken egg, sugar, water, custard etc, wrapped also with their home hand-rubbed flour, finally served after 15 minutes steamed will brings fair delicious sweet taste that you will like it. Also their signature “Wholemeal Steamed Pau”, which to be served in option fillings of butter milk or red bean, or either in plain all wrapped with in-house rubbed flour mixed into oat that only in this “Uncle’s Pau Cafe”.
