“Black Round Noodle” which been hundred years been known by Chinese Fook Chew religious as their traditional noodles taken, recently been named “Fook Chew Noodle” still practiced frequently especially in South Malaysia, Johor. The Lim family, Mr. Lim Kok He (pronouns) who born in China was the founder of “OR HWU Restaurant” in year 1950s at Yong Peng, Johor been passed onto second generation Lim Sing Hua in 1980s, recently operating by 3rd generation Lim Thai How. Continue presenting their traditional home recipe to the locals and visitors.
The founder Lim Kok He who reached Yong Peng, Johor at his teenagers following parents initially stepped into the f&b industry as kitchen trainee since 1930s, later on established his very first noodle house along Jalan Besar, Yong Peng named “OR HWU” introducing his hand made home recipe fook chew style fried and stewed noodles in year 1950s.
While founder’s son Lim Sing Hua (2nd generation) who born locally in year 1952 at his age of 62 currently, been touched the industry since kids helping father in the restaurant. Also at the end of 1960s named their home cooked black round noodle as “Fook Chew Noodle” serving in traditional manner. Sing Hua later on at his age of around 30 years old take over the career, subsequent to the great response from the market enabled him to expose further moved into wider shoplot in year 1995 beside Jalan Besar, Yong Peng (recent location).
Lim Thai How who at his age of 36 years old, now is the owner (3rd generation) also been touched the career since kids helping in the restaurant initially stepped into f&b in year 1993 at age of 15 registered himself into a chefing college institution in Jalan Pudu, Kuala Lumpur to sharpen his profession spent about 7 years exposed his career in Kuala Lumpur. While in year 2000 returned to home town committed with father in their restaurant, then in year 2011 at his age of 33 take over the restaurant being generation passed untill today presenting their home recipe menus.
In this 65 years history noodle house, the top recommended in menus will be their traditional Signature Fried Fook Chew Mee which using rough noodles fried with their secret recipe made of six ingredients mixture, fried about 5 minutes insided with fresh prawn, pork slice, squid, chicken meat and veges. Brings the exotic ‘black big noodles’ Yong Peng’s authentic food you must try when reached Johor.
Secondly will be their Stewed Fook Chew Mee, cooked using soup base which boiled for 2 hours with pork and chicken bones poured onto stewed with rough noodles for about few minutes then poured slightly black vinegar and chicken egg, also one of the best selling and most wanted by their regulars. Also black in presentation.
Moreover as side dishes, you cannot missed their Hand Made Pork Roll which made mixture of pork minced with seafood wrapped with pork oil level then deep fried. This is the best eatery in town using founder’s recipe more than half century history. Others, their Fook Chew Egg Soup also among the recommended in the restaurant. Using their in-house soup base boiled with chicken egg, pork minced and chicken shredded poured into little vinegar with their recipe ingredients brings the sweet, sour and salted taste like having a bowl of ‘Shark Fin’ soup.
Nonetheless, the Red Dates Chicken you never regret after taken when stepped into “OR HWU Restaurant”. Chicken cutted into pieces fried for about half an hour with red dates paste then stewed 5 minutes with their home made red wine and five ingredients mixture also among their signature menus in “OR HWU”.
