“Koay Teow Soup” is one of the Asian Chinese religious traditional food taken since decade ago, nowadays still frequently practised in our country Malaysia.  It is also the local’s authentic favourites food by locals public and visitors in South Malaysia, can be found along almost every single street in Penang.

The local originated name Ah Hai who born in year 1945 was the founder of the local well known “Hai Koay Teow Soup”, been now recipe passed onto his second generation son Mr. Wilson Phang Wei Sheng (born 1986) is the immediate and recent owner of the “Hai Restaurant” koay teow soup specialized shop at Bayan Lepas, Pulau Pinang continue to expose their family recipe to the public.

The founder Ah Hai who with his age of 69 years old currently, initially stepped into the food industry in year 1983 since his age of 38 years old running his very 1st roadside food stall along Hong Kong Street, Penang introduced his home recipe koay teow soup began his career in the industry, for about 17 years there.  Later-on in millenium year 2000 moved to Relau, Pulau Pinang operating for another 11 years reached 2011.

While Wilson Phang, the 2nd generation, who with his age of only 28 years old recently is in Education Industry touced the industry at his 21 of age helping parents in the food stall.  Initially stepped into the f&b industry been passed onto his father’s recipe in year 2011, in addition with his great interest in eatery and wishing to expose further their family career enabled Wilson to establish his first koay teow soup specialized shop named “Hai Restaurant” in year 2012 along Jalan Dato Ismail Hashim, Penang being assisted by parents.

In this restaurant, Wilson’s top recommended in menus surely will be their family 30 years home recipe traditional Koay Teow Soup which prepared per bowl upon order.  Soup boiled with their raw marinated pork minced and rice noodles or locally known ‘Koay Teow’, poured into some soy sauce then served topped with fish ball, pork slice and fried onions brings a bowl of their exotic tasty “Hai Koay Teow Soup” you must try when reached Penang.  Additional of pork livers and intestines are available upon demand.

Secondly will be their signature Dry Kon Lou Koay Teow which served with same tops as koay teow soup.  The rice noodle boiled then mixed with their in-house recipe soy sauce made from 5 ingredients mixture, added into fried onions and fried pork oily brings the best eatery taste you will never regret after consumed.  Also among the top selling and most wanted by visitors.

Other then noodles, Wilson introduce their newly Steamed Chicken which among the recommended menu.  Local fresh chicken with weight of about 1.8kg been selected, boiled in their soup base prepared insided with gingers and onions, then finally served on plate in cutted pieces poured onto their secret recipe soya sauce mixture will be one of the best in town.  Especially the chicken meat textures itself when bites you cannot missed when stepped into the “Hai Restaurant” Koay Teow Soup specialized shop.

As side order, their fresh boiled Oyster Sauce Vegetables also among the favourites by their regulars.  Vegetables prepared boiled upon order from client then served poured onto their recipe mixed oyster sauce, topped with fried onions shredded and chicken fross as signature.
