One of the authentic traditional local famous eatery in Penang, Malaysia since decade ago still recently the favourites by locals and visitors the “Hokkien Prawn Mee”, can be found everywhere or on every street in Pulau Pinang.  Here found the Goh family 47 years history hokkien prawn mee recipe carried on by the 2nd generation at Raja Uda Butterworth, Penang.

The local originated Madam Ang Ah Lan who born in year 1926 was the founder, recently been passed onto his son Mr. Goh Teik Huat who with his age of 52 years old is the recent owner of the 47 years recipe currently named “Ah Kok Hock Kian Mee” hokkien prawn mee specialized shop in Penang, being assisted by wife Ms. Chin Yook Yong (born 1969) introducing their home recipe selections to the public.

Madam Ang who with his age of 89 years old currently, began her very first mobile noodle stall and stepped into the food & beverage industry in year 1968 at her age of 42 at Bagan Ajam, Penang selling her home cooked Hokkien Prawn Mee and Loh Mee with no signage for about ten years.  While in year 1978 been continued by her eldest son (Teik Huat elder brother) further exposed into 1990s running a fixed food stall serving mother’s home recipe to the locals.

While Goh Teik Huat (Ah Kok) who born in year 1963, formerly was a School Bus Driver been stepped into the food and beverage industry with his lovely wife in year 2004 started their 1st food stall in the ‘Beng Soon Restoran’ wishing to continue his mother’s Hokkien Prawn Mee and Loh Mee career allowed them to expose for about another 10 years, then moved into a shoplot at Kampung Paya, Penang at the end of 2012.  Subsequent to the great response from the market enabled them to established their specialized shop named “Restoran Mr. Kok” or “Ak Kok Hock Kian Mee” at Jalan Raja Uda in year 2013.

In the restaurant, the owners top recommended will be surely their nearly half century mother’s recipe Hokkien Prawn Mee Soup.  Soup base boiled for 2 hours with pork bones then poured into prawn shells brings an exotic taste you must try.  A bowl of their Hokkien Mee served mixed with pork slice, prawn, boiled egg and topped with fried onions will be the perfect eatery found in Penang.  Additional options to be added on customers demand will have such roasted pork belly, stewed spare ribs, stewed chicken feets, pork intestines, stewed dried beancurd etc.  Taken mixed with their home fried sambal chilli paste provided will be the best eatery in town.

Secondly will be their two generation Loh Mee, which prepared using home soup base boiled mixed into another 6 recipe ingredients mixture then served poured into raw egg.  A bowl of their Loh Mee will topped with pork slice, roasted pork belly and boiled egg as traditional serving.  Also one of the top seller in the restaurant, wanted by their regulars.

Another will be their “Cham Loh”, which is the mixture of their Hokkien Mee Soup and Loh Mee Soup served with common tops.  This is the locals favourites eatery taken since 20th century, brings another newly taste found in the Hokkien Mee specialized noodle house.  Being introduced to those who came from other states or countries, will brings another new century authentic eatery selection.

Moreover, Ah Kok also introduced his Dried Hokkien Prawn Mee which prepared mixed with his home made recipe sauce made from 3 ingredients mixture such black soy sauce, oyster sauce etc, then poured into slight in-house soup base brings an exotic known Kon Lou Hokkien Prawn Mee you cannot missed when stepped into “Ah Kok Hock Kian Mee” in North Malaysia, Penang.
