“Boiled Chicken” is one of the Chinese traditional chicken cooking eatery since decades ago, still frequently practised and favourites by around the nation.  In North Malaysia, Pulau Pinang we found to recognise a couple’s oyster sauce smooth boiled chicken recipe having great response from the market.

The local originated Mr. Mervin Tan Pei Cheng who born in year 1983 was the founder, together with lovely wife Ms. Vicky Pak Wee Kie (born 1984) both are the immediate owners of the local famous “Boiled Chicken Restaurant” introducing their signature home recipe oyster sauce boiled chicken to the public, recently in Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

Mervin Tan who at his age of 32 years old currently, also the restaurant main chef, having great interest in f&b and eatery initially stepped into the food and beverage industry since year 2005 at his 22 of age joined the “Mei Xiang Wei Chicken Rice”(pronouns) began as helper in Chai Leng Park, Butterworth for about 2 years, where he met Vicky Pak.

While Vicky Pak who grown up in a f&b family, parents running their noodle food stall in Chai Leng Park, touched the industry since kids helping parents in the stall.  In year 2006, Mervin and Vicky established their very first food stall at Bukit Tengah, Bukit Mertajam introducing their home recipe fish head noodles and tom yam noodles began their career but unsuccessfull.

In year 2007, with the experience Mervin hold in chicken rice field and having the support by wife Vicky enabled this couple to start their chicken rice food stall in Raja Uda named “MV Chicken Rice” running for another few years.  With the great response from the locals and wishing to expose further, Mervin and Vicky expanded and moved into a shop lot established their very owned 1st specialized shop along Jalan Perniagaan Gemilang officially named “Boiled Chicken Restaurant” introducing all their home recipe selections with their signature oyster sauce smooth boiled chicken as main.  Later on exposed into 2 lots after a year.

In this restaurant, the founder’s top recommended in menus surely will be their Boiled Smooth Chicken which chicken with the weight of about 2kg-2.1kg being selected.  Prepared boiled for about 40 minutes in their in-house onions soup base, then served poured onto their 6 ingredients mixture oyster sauce brings the best exotic taste eatery found in town you must have a try.  Especially the chicken meats texture itself taken into mouth with the delicious oyster sauce tippings, smoothness will be the attraction.

Secondly will be their Steamed Grouper Fish, with limited serves daily.  Fresh local deep sea grouper fish selected steamed for about 10 minutes on boiled water, poured onto their more than 10 recipe ingredients mixtures sauce then served topped with veges shredded and deep fried garlic shredded brings one of their regulars wanted.

Moreover, Mervin’s Palm Sauce Pork will be among the recommended in this chicken rice shop.  Prepared with marinated pork deep fried into golden yellow, then served cutted and sided with bowl of Mervin’s sweet & sour palm sauce made from 3 secret ingredients mixtures you cannot aside.  Deep fried pork taken tipping onto the palm sauce presenting one of the best choice in town.

Another will be their Crispy Mantis Shrimp, which mantis shrimp prepared in deep fried with recipes flur from more than 10 ingredients mixture, taken with chilli sauce provided also the wanted by their visitors.  The Sambal Prawn prepared with their home fried sambal paste, which made from more than 10 spices mixtures, served mixed with uncoated “Ming Prawn” and cucumber cubes brings the spicy and sour taste likes by the visitors.

Nonetheless, they also introducing Each Soup Daily, in total of 7 different Steamed Soup options in a week.  The Pork Stomach Steamed Soup will be the recommemded among the menus.  Soup steamed 45 minutes with boiled stomach mixed with red carrot, sengkuang, chicken feet, spare ribs and ginger slice, then added into pepper seeds brings a bowl of exotic soup you cannot missed when stepped into the “Boiled Chicken Restaurant” at Gemilang, Bukit Mertajam.
