One of the traditional eatery famously practised in North Malaysia especially in Pulau Pinang the “Hokkien Prawn Mee” can be seen everywhere recently in the nation having decade history. The local originated Mr. Teng Yew Sin who born in year 1970 was the founder and immediate recent owner of the well known “San Hokkien Prawn Mee” in Penang introducing his home recipe hokkien mee and others signature eateries to the locals, with assisted by his lovely wife Ms. Goay Choi Peng running the outlet in Juru.
Teng Yew Sin or known Ah San who with his age of 45 years old currently, initially stepped into the f&b industry since his age of 18 years old reached Johor Bahru recruited himself into the “Fu Hwa Seafood Restaurant”(pronouns) in Taman Sri Tebrau worked as helper began his career in the field. Then been travelled to Singapore, Brunei and also been exposed his profession in Ipoh, Perak from kitchen trainee to seafood cuisine chef.
While in year 1990, Ah San returned to hometown Penang started his very first and owned food stall in Seberang Jaya with his brother running their home made hokkien prawn mee for about 5 years then established his very owned began at Permatang Tinggi in 1995, later on moved to the recent location since year 2000 officially named “San Hokkien Prawn Mee”.
Subsequent to the great response from the market, in year 2014 enabled Ah San to established his hokkien mee specialized shop at Taman Juru being assisted and running by wife Choi Peng continue further their explosure in the food and beverage industry.
In Ah San’s noodle stall and restaurant, the founder’s top recommended in menus surely will be his 20 years Hokkien Prawn Mee. Soup base prepared with fresh prawn boiled half an hour then served mixed into his home fried chilli paste made from 4 ingredients mixture and topped with prawn, boiled chicken egg, pork slice, veges and fried onions brings a complete bowl of Ah San’s Hokkien Prawn Mee you must try. Moreover, some additional sided are available on customer’s demand such boiled spare ribs, pork intestines, spicy sambal squid, stewed egg, fish ball, chicken feet etc. Their Stewed Chicken Feet prepared in deep fried then stewed with Ah San’s 6 secret ingredients mixtures then kept overnight, and served next day after boiled brings the very exotic taste you will never regret after taken.
Another will be the Loh Mee, one of the recommended most wanted by local regulars. Soup sauce prepared with in-house 6 recipes mixtures boiled about 15 minutes then served topped with boiled chicken egg, pork slice, veges and fried onions brings one of the best in town. Some of the regulars will like to have their Hokkien Loh Mee or locally known ‘Cham Loh’ which served mixed with hokkien mee and loh mee soup on same tops.
