CHEF ENG WITH HIS 35 YEARS CHEFING EXPERIENCE RECENTLY BEEN RECOGNISED IN SIMPANG AMPAT, NORTH MALAYSIA
The local originated Mr. Eng Huah Hock who born in Penang year 1962 was the founder and with his lovely wife Ms. Kok Wai Lee, who born in Perak, are the recent owners of the local famous “Moon Tin Seafood Restaurant” at Bagan Tambun introducing their more than 30 years home recipes in menus to the public, being assisted by elder son as second chef.
Eng Huah Hock or Chef Eng who with his age of 53 years old currently, initially touched the industry since year 1980 at his age of 18 worked as waiter in Jawi Jaya, Penang later on fully stepped into the food and beverage industry when joined the “Da Ma Restaurant”(pronouns) as kitchen trainee where he began his career in the profession.
With the experience hold and opportunity been given, in year 1982 Chef Eng bodied-up with uncle running their roadside seafood stall along Lebuh Chulia in the herritage site Georgetown but unsuccessfull. Afterwards in year 1985 been recuited into the “Golden Hill Restaurant” as chef at Taman Chai Leng to further sharpen his career profession allowed him established his very 1st and owned seafood counter at Jawi Jaya in year 2002 with wife and named “Moon Tin Seafood” running for about 12 years.
Subsequent to the great response from market, enabled Chef Eng moved and established his first seafood restaurant in year 2014 officially named “Moon Tin Seafood Restaurant” in Bagan Tambun, Simpang Ampat with two lots continue serving his more than 30 years experience recipes to the locals and visitors in manner.
In this restaurant, the founder Chef Eng’s first recommended in menus will be their Garlic Steamed Frog. Fresh local river frog been selected steamed 10 minutes on boiling water with home recipe soya sauce mixture and topped with garlic paste, ginger shredded and chillies shredded brings the freshness and slight spicy taste you must try when reached North Malaysia.
Secondly will be the Curry Flower Crab, which is one of the top seller in the restaurant. Local fresh flower crab with weight of about 250grams been selected, prepared stir fried with their home curry paste recipes made from 10 ingredients mixtures you will never regret after taste. Especially the curry exotic taste taken with chewing textures crab meats putting into mouth. Also the most wanted by their regulars.
Another will be their Pepper Fish Soup, will be one of the Chef’s home recipes introduced cannot be found in others. Mostly grouper fish been selected then deep fried before boiled minutes in soup prepared mixed with ginger slice, pepper seeds, Qi Zhi herbs and another home 7 ingredients poured into, brings the very authentic fish soup you cannot aside with slight smooth spicy taste.
Moreover, you can found the chinese traditional “Dong Po” Pork Belly in this seafood restaurant on Chef Eng’s recipe. Local pork belly used boiled untill cooked, then stewed with founder’s 10 ingredients spices sauce for an hour afterwards steamed for another 45 minutes before served sided with fresh veges will be the best eatery in town. The taste brought out from the pork itself taken bites with excellent meats texture surely you will say ‘Like’ after taken.
Nonetheless, their ‘Po King Prawn’ also among the recommended in menus. Using local fresh shell uncoated ‘Ming’ prawn marinated with their in-house recipes for 2 hours, then deep fried with home spices flur, prepared stir fried with founder’s 8 ingredients sweet & sour sauce before served on plate you cannot missed when stepped into the “Moon Tin Seafood Restaurant” at Simpang Ampat, Pulau Pinang.
