Chong Meng Hoei or known Ah Jun who with his age of 46 years old currently, initially stepped into the f&b industry since his age of only 12 years old in 1981 recruited himself into a teoh chew cuisine restaurant at Transfer Road, Penang as kitchen trainee where he began his chefing career spent about 10 years there. Later on in year 1992, Ah Jun running his very first owned food stall in the ‘Kim Yuan Kopitiam’(pronouns) for about a year at Butterworth before reached Japan to further his career explosure.
While at his age of 26 after returned to home town, established the “Song River Special Bak But Teh” along Gurney Drive, Penang running more than ten years and been generation passed onto his elder son to continued. Then Ah Jun established his “Kedai Makanan Hoei Kee” in year 2009 along Jalan Laruk again introducing his home recipe chinese cuisine, having great response from the public enabled exposed into 2nd outlet in Jalan Pantai Jerjak early 2014 and another in end 2014 along Jalan Jelutong, Pulau Pinang named “Hoei Kee” being assisted by wife Seok Pheng.
In these restaurants, the founder’s top recommended in menus will be their Signature Fish Furnace which commonly served with fresh grouper fish slice and fish head. Soup base boiled 4 hours with pork bones and chicken bones added into Ah Jun’s 5 ingredients recipe then insided into fresh fish meats, cabbage, yam, water beancurd and matured garlic then served in boiling pot brings exotic fish freshness and authentic sweet taste you must have a try when reached Penang.
Secondly will be the restaurant’s and founder Ah Jun’s newly introduced Fried Bittergourd with Egg, which recently being one of the local Penang’s favourites by visitors. Bittergourd prepared in cutted slices then topped onto half cooked chicken egg, then served on plate with recipe soya sauce poured onto brings unbeliveable eatery taste you never regret after taken.
Another will be their Eggplant Beancurd, also one of the most wanted by regulars in the restaurant well known in Penang. Home made beancurd steamed an hour from mixture of fresh soya milk and chicken egg then prepared in deep fried cubes, finally served topped with fried eggplant with oyster sauce, sesame oil, soy sauce and dried shrimp you cannot aside.
Moreover, their Seasonal Beans with Dried Shrimp also among the recommended selection. Fresh local season beans prepared in deep fried to keep the freshness then dry fried with dried shrimp, pork minced, sweet veges and added into founder’s 5 spices mixture brings exotic sweet, salted and exotic taste which is one of the best home cooked dish found in these restaurants.
