THIAM’s FAMILY BEANSPROUT CHICKEN RECIPE INTO THEIR 20 YEARS IN “KAH SENG” RESTAURANT AT PERAK
One of the Ipoh, Perak local famous eatery “Beansprout Chicken” practiced since half decade ago still the locals favourites and ‘must eat’ by visitors when reached the town. Here in Bercham, we found another being recognised “New Kah Seng” restaurant running by the Thiam family into 20 years serving their home recipe beansprout chicken rice and kueh teow to the locals.
The local originated Mr. Thiam Boon Wah who born in year 1962, was the founder and immediate owner of the “Restoran New Kah Seng Ipoh” beansprout chicken eating house recently running with wife Madam Kee Wai Hong (born 1964) who originated from Penang, introducing their home made boiled chicken, beansprout and others eateries to the public in North, the Perak state.
Thiam Boon Wah who at his age of 53 years old currently, was formerly in Automobile Workshop industry initially stepped into the f&b career since 1987 with younger brother Ah Weng joined their brother-in-law’s beansprout chicken restaurant as beginners in Jalan Gasing, Kuala Lumpur stayed 8 years there to experience the career before returned to hometown Ipoh.
While in year 1995, Boon Wah bodied-up with brother Ah Weng successfully established their very first and owned beansprout chicken restaurant named “Restoran Kah Seng Ipoh Tauge Ayam Kuetiau” along Jalan Bercham Desa Kencana presenting their boiled chicken and beansprouts to the locals, having great response from the market. After into 20 years, Boon Wah took over the restaurant renamed “Restoran New Kah Seng Ipoh” continue running with wife, and being assisted by younger son Thiam Tuck Juan in year 2014.
In the restaurant, the owner Boon Wah firstly introduced his Boiled Chicken which prepared on his nearly 30 years experience in the field. Local feeded chicken with weight about 2.1kg selected boiled 30 minutes in their in-house soup base, following with cold watering to bring better chicken meats texture then served in cutted pieces and poured onto their home mixed soy sauce brings the exotic freshness and taste you must try. Especially taken tipping onto their homemade chilli paste and ginger paste sided.
Surely when taking boiled chicken in Ipoh cannot aside their Ipoh locals Beansprout served in another plate after quick boiled and poured onto their prepared soy sauce. Which called “Ipoh Beansprout Chicken”, also the favourites and most wanted by visitors.
As to complete the eateries, Boon Wah also recommended to take the beansprout chicken either with their home cooked oily rice or kueh teow. Rice cooked 40 minutes with pandan leaf, butter, ginger etc or kueh teow served in soup or dry kon lou only said to be a perfect match you never regret after tasted.
Moreover, you can also taking sided with a bowl of their chicken soup insided mixed with fresh handmade fish ball, meat ball and vege fish roll. Which also their signature in the restaurant commonly seen on every single table, wanted by their regulars.
