Both the local sister and brother, Ms. Joey Chong Poi Yee who born in Perak 1984 and brother Mr. Wicky Chong, together with Mr. Tony Wong Wing Yew who is Selangor origin (born 1982) are the founders and initial owners of the “Restoran Ong Chao” roasted mix eating house at Taman Pengkalan Jaya, Ipoh introducing their home recipe roasted mix and home made nasi lemak to the public under a roof.
Tony Wong who also the restaurant’s Chief Chef, at his age of 33 years old recently, was a Western Food Cuisine graduate from the “Flamengo Institute” chefing academy in Kuala Lumpur initially stepped into the F&B industry since year 2005 at his 23 being recruited into the Crown Princess Hotel’s Western Cuisine restaurant began as kitchen trainee where Tony practically experience the career. Then joined a western food restaurant at Ampang, Kuala Lumpur as Assistant Chef for a year before joined the nationwide famous “Victoria Station” western cuisine chain restaurant to further his profession spent years there.
In order to sharpen and strengthen his chefing career, in year 2011 touched the Italian Cuisine in Selangor joined the “CAFF” Italian restaurant where also his last employent in the industry. While Joey Chong who stepped into the F&B industry in Singapore stayed 8 years there began as waitress met her love one Tony in Kuala Lumpur, both having mission to have their own restaurant and with the supports & concept from brother Wicky enabled them in year 2014 successfully established their very 1st roasted mix concept eating house in Ipoh officially named “Restoran Ong Chao” at Stesen 18, Perak.
In this restaurant, the owner’s first top recommended in menus surely will be their Roasted Pork Belly which prepared on Tony’s combination of western & chinese recipes. Local fresh belly pork selected, marinated overnight with their 7 ingredients mixture then roast in oven for about 45 minutes then to be served either topped on rice or with noodles you must have a try when reached Ipoh, Perak.
Secondly will be their Signature Best Food 2015, the “Ong Chao 3 Treasure Rice Platter” which served topped with combination of their roasted pork belly, char siew and roasted chicken, sided with boiled salted egg and vegetables will be their regulars favourites and the top seller in the restaurant you never regret after tasted.
Another will be their Dry Kon Lou Wantan Noodle, which using egg-made noodles mixed with their homemade soy sauce from 5 recipes ingredient brings slight salty taste, sided with a bowl of their hand-wrapped wantan. Also can be served topped with their signature roasted pork belly, roasted chicken or char siew on customer’s demand.
Moreover, the Weekends Special Joey’s mother homemade recipe pandan Nasi Lemak also among their recommended wanted by the visitors. Rice cooked half an hour with pandan leaves paste and coconut milk, served sided with their home fried sambal ikan bilis (made mixed of onions, dried chillies, chilli paste & ikan bilis), deep fried chicken wing, deep fried crispy ikan bilis, chicken egg and cucumber slices will be the best eatery in town.
