THE 1ST “CHARCOAL CLAYPOT CHICKEN RICE” IN KAMPAR @ PERAK, STILL CARRIED BY 2ND-GENERATION INTO 60 YEARS HISTORY

As known by the nations and visitors from around the world, “Claypot Chicken Rice” will be one of the famous traditional eatery favourites by the locals in Kampar, Perak still frequently be found everywhere in the town.  But here in the Kampar oldtown, we found and recognised the authentic 2 generation claypot chicken rice “Heng Kee” still running with charcoal since 1950s, having history more than half decade and will be the first in Kampar.

The local originated, late Mr. Lai Heng (1911-1991) was the founder and initial owner of the “Heng Kee Chicken Rice Stall” in Kampar.  Recently being generation passed onto son Mr. Lai Lit Keong (Lai Yip Wai) who at his age of 53 years old currently, running the family recipes for the pass 32 years at Kampar oldtown still serving their home recipe charcoal claypot chicken rice to the locals and visitors in manner.

Mr. Lai Heng or famously known as “Heng Kee”, was also the founder or first charcoal claypot chicken rice trader in Kampar running his very 1st roadside food stall along Jalan Idris (also known Jalan Panggung Wayang), Kampar in year 1950s.  Where the “Heng Kee Chicken Rice Stall” began.  Later on exposed into a fixed food stall in the “Chan Siew Heng Kopitiam” in 1960s continued his explosure in the indutrsy.

With the great response from public after years,  Heng Kee being moved into the “Wing Lok Yuen Kopitiam” at the end 1960s settled down his career here, which is the recent location.  While son Lai Lit Keong (born 1962) or locally known Ah Keong touched the industry since education age helping father in the stall, then stepped into the career at his age of around 19.  And later on took over the claypot chicken rice stall in year 1983 at his 21 years old as 2nd generation further his family’s recipes kept unchange untill today, still prepared with charcoal traditionally.

In Heng Kee, the owner’s first and top recommended in menus surely will be their signature 60 years recipe Charcoal Claypot Chicken Rice.  White rice washed and dried, cooked in claypot for few minutes above charcoal flames, then slow boiled for another 10 minutes with poured onto their 2 hours marinated chicken with 5 recipes ingredient will be the best eatery you must have a try when reached Kampar, Perak.

Claypot chicken rice served topped with chinese sausage, salted fish and poured onto slight onions oil and soy sauce brings very exotic and salty taste you never regret after consumed.  For those who like salted fish, they can be served with another plate of Heng Kee’s home recipe salted fish topped ginger paste steamed above rice on customer’s request.  It is the best claypot chicken rice ever tasted in town, you will say “Good” after taken.

Secondly will be their Chicken Mix, which also being served since the first generation in Heng Kee.  Mixtures of chicken kidneys, blood cubes, livers and intestines prepared in boiled after cleaned, then served poured onto onions oil, soy sauces and pepper is one of the local’s traditional eatery favourites by the locals.

Another will be their Stewed Chicken Feet, which also among the top seller in Heng Kee and most wanted by their regulars.  Chicken feets stewed 2 hours with their family’s 6 spices mixture included herbal and garlic brings the best exotic garlic and sweet taste you cannot aside.  The bites texture itself when taken into mouth will also the reason to be one of the best eatery in town.

Nonetheless, the Boiled Vegetables cooked in their hours boiled chicken bones soup base, then served topped with home recipe sauce and fried onions oil you cannot missed sided with a bowl of their charcoal claypot chicken rice when stepped into “Heng Kee Chicken Rice Stall” at Kampar Oldtown, Perak.
