“GOOD LUCK” INTO 20 YEARS CARRIED BY THE 2 LADIES GAIK HEOK & SOO HEANG PRESENTING THEIR HOME RECIPES
Famously known by the locals and visitors, a restaurant running by 2 ladies since 1995 entering 20 years, the “Good Luck Restaurant” at Taman Petani Jaya, Kedah introducing their home recipes menus under a corner. Recently having great response from the public and being recognised as one of the best eating house in year 2015 at Sungai Petani.
Both the Gurun originated Madam Ng Gaik Heok (founder) who born in year 1957, and Madam Lim Soo Heang who born 1953 are the immediate owners of the well known “Good Luck Restaurant” serving their authentic home cooked bak kut teh, fried veges, nyonya curry fish head, spicy Lala etc under a roof. Being generation passed onto their next generation Peter Teoh Wooi Hin (born 1978), who is Soo Heang’s eldest son.
Madam Ng Gaik Heok who at her age of 58 years old currently, who from teenager having great interest in chefing and in order to expose her eatery cooking talent, initially stepped into the f&b industry in year 1991 where she bodied with husband and cousins established their very first bak kut teh restaurant name “Good Luck” at Taman Ria, Sg. Petani running for few years then ended due to circumstances.
While Madam Lim Soo Heang who at her 62 of age, formerly was a homemade noodle stall seller at Gurun, Kedah. Later on stepped into the bak kut teh career in year 1995, where she bodied-up with Gaik Heok running the “Good Luck Restaurant” at Taman Petani Jaya, which is the recent location.
In year 1998, Peter Teoh who decided to joined mother and Madam Ng, from his age of twenty sacrificed his education and touched the industry helping in the restaurant. Then fully stepped into the career after 2 years in 2000. Been passed onto all recipes since year 2004, and took over the responsibility to lead the restaurant as 2nd generation.
In Good Luck, surely the first top recommended in menus will be their home recipe Claypot Bak Kut Teh. Soup base with combination of 14 chinese herbals being boiled for about 40 minutes, then mixed into spare ribs, belly pork, trotter, stomach and intestine boiled for another half an hour you have to try when reached Sg. Petani. Served boiled in claypot topped with dried beancurd, veges and mushroom sticks brings another exotic taste eatery.
Secondly will be their homemade Nyonya Curry Fish Head, where curry paste prepared in-house daily to pretent freshness. Home fried curry paste with 7 spices mixture, cooked with minimise coconut milk and maximise evaporated creamer then served poured onto fresh local “karak” fish head you cannot aside. Which brings sour & spicy taste, most wanted by the regulars.
Another will be their Signature Fried Cabbage with dried shrimp, will be the restaurant’s top seller almost can be seen on every single table. Moreover, their Fried Fish with Soy Beans & Onions also among the recommended. “Karak” fish slice will be selected, stir fried with their homemade soy bean sauce recipes mixed into ginger shredded and onions will be one of the best in town you never regret after consumed.
Nonetheless, the owners also introduced their Fried Lala with Soy Beans & Chilli. Well prepared soy bean sauce mixed with their secret ingredients recipe, then stir fried minute with fresh Lala clams added into chilli padi brings exotic spicy tasty eatery you cannot missed when stepped into the “Good Luck Restaurant” at Taman Petani Jaya, Kedah.
