THE ALOR SETAR WELL-KNOWN HOME RECIPE CURRY FISH HEAD CARRIED BY “ORKID TROPICA” @ KEDAH
Everywhere in our nation Malaysia, we found thousand of restaurants which presenting their curry fish head on respective recipes. Especially in the north, “Kedah” is the state with curry fish head as one of the local famous eatery favourites by visitors. Here in Alor Setar, we found to be recognised the “Hainan Orkid Tropica Cafe” which having great response from the public on their home recipe curry fish head, as one of the best eating house in town year 2015.
The local originated Ah June who born in Alor Setar, Kedah year 1965 was the founder, together with his lovely wife Ms. Lee Siew Keng or known Win Win Lee (born 1971 in Penang) both are the initial owners of the well known “Hainan Orkid Tropica Cafe” introducing not only their curry fish head, but also various signature menus to the locals and visitors under a roof along Jalan Langgar.
Ah June who at his age of 50 years old currently, initially stepped into the f&b industry since his age of 12 years old in 1977 began as kitchen trainee in a chinese cuisine restaurant at Seberang Perak, Alor Setar for about 7 years. Then joined another restaurant in Alor Setar as chinese cuisine chef for about 3 years to further his exposure in the career.
While in the end 1980s, Ah June reached Johor Bahru continue as under-employed chef in the industry to sharpen his chefing experience, where he met a good friend of his, who also an Operating Chef in Istana passed onto him the home-generation curry fish head recipes, hoping Ah June to expose in the field.
With the interest in f&b and having vision to run their own restaurant, Ah June established his very owned and 1st cafe at Taman Setia Jaya, Alor Setar named “Hainan Orkid Tropica Cafe” in year 2003 together with wife Win Win Lee began only with some of their homemade eateries and desserts. Later on in year 2007, introducing their home recipe curry fish head to the locals, having great recommendation and being recognised widely as the best in town.
In Orkid Tropica, the founder’s first top recommended in menus surely will be their Curry Fish Head which famously known by visitors from other states, even from other countries. Local sea grouper fish head selected, served on banana leaf with their cooked homemade curry paste which 2 hours fried with more than 20 ingredients mixture, then mixed into eggplant, lady finger, cucumber and mint leaves will brings sweet, salty & spicy taste you must try when reached Alor Setar.
Secondly will be their Deep Fried Squid with Salted Egg, which also the visitor’s most wanted. Fresh local sea squids prepared in tiny cutted pieces, flur up with 8 recipes mixed into salted egg, then served in deep fried on banana leaf brings the exotic taste and crispy in bites you never regret after taken. Especially taken tipping onto the chilli sauce sided, is the best eatery in town.
Another will be their Fried “Udang Lipan”, is among the signature in Orkid Tropica Cafe. Fresh lobster prawn stir fried with onions, chilli padi, dried chillies and mixed into their in-house recipe sauce will brings sweet & spicy taste you cannot aside. Is the favourite and must order menu by those who like spicy.
Moreover, the owners also introduced their home recipe Kam Hiong Prawn which totally differ from others. Either “Ming Prawn” or “Tiger Prawn” to be selected, stir fried with Ah June’s secret recipe sauce prepared and mixed into onions, dried chillies and chilli padi brings very exotic eatery you will no reason to reject in the restaurant.
Nonetheless, their Home Steamed Beancurd also among the signature recommended other than seafood. Water white beancurd prepared in cutted cubes, steamed minutes then served poured onto their 6 recipes home sauce tasted sweet & salty which you cannot missed when stepped into the “Hainan Orkid Tropica Cafe” at Taman Setia Jaya, Alor Setar.
