Here in Alor Setar, Kedah there is one of the local famous & well known by public the 3 generation homemade Hainan Chicken Rice carried by “Tong Jing” being recognised in year 2015.
The local originated Mr. Frankie Teo Teik Hong who born in year 1966, together with wife Ms. Bernice Tan Swee Nee (born 1972) both are the 3rd generation, and also the recent owners of the “Tong Jing Famous Chicken Rice” eating house exposed into specialized shop along Lebuhraya Darulaman, Alor Setar since year 2013 continue presenting their 3 generation hainan chicken rice to the visitors.
Mr. Keng Ah Ba (2nd generation) who at his age of 69 years old currently, was also the founder of “Tong Jing” hainan chicken rice initially stepped into the industry since his age of 32 years old in year 1978 together with wife Madam Chong Aik Meng (born 1953), been generation passed onto home recipes by father-in-law, Aik Meng’s father (1st generation) enabled them running their very first chicken rice stall along Jalan Putra, Alor Setar (beside old cinema) in the “Tong Jing Kopitiam” for about 20 years. Then moved to Simpang Kuala in end 1990s officially named “Tong Jing Hainan Chicken Rice”.
While the 3rd generation, Frankie Teo who is Keng Ah Ba’s cousin nephew, at his age of 49 years old recently grown up in f&b family since kids touched the career helping parents finally stepped into the industry in year 2006 being passed onto their family home recipe hainan chicken rice from Keng Ah Ba, also took over and continue the chicken rice stall in Simpang Kuala untill recent.
Subsequent to the great response from the market, in year 2013 Frankie Teo successfully further his exposure in the career and established his very 1st & owned chicken rice specialized restaurant named “Tong Jing Famous Chicken Rice” at Taman Tunku Habsah, where his wife Bernice Tan began stepped into the career.
In Tong Jing hainan chicken rice shop, the owner’s top first recommended in menus surely will be their traditional authentic Boiled Chicken taken with home cooked oil rice. Local feeded chicken selected, boiled 45 minutes in soup base prepared, served cutted into pieces and poured onto their home sauce made from combination of soy sauce, fried garlic oil and sesame oil will be the exotic traditional hainan boiled chicken you must have a try when reached Alor Setar.
Secondly will be their Roasted Pork Belly and Roasted Pork (Char Siew), which among the restaurant’s signatures. Pork belly roast for about an hours after marinated with Frankie’s more than 10 recipes mixture brings excellent eatery especially the crispy skin layer in bites. Also the 45 minutes roasted Char Siew after marinated with in-house spices, then served poured onto their homemade sweet sauce you cannot aside.
Another side dish which most wanted by their regulars in Tong Jing will be the Steamed Beancurd with Deep Fried Dried Shrimp. Which also one of the eating house top seller you need to taste, differ from others. Water white beancurd steamed, then served topped with dried shrimp shredded prepared with oyster sauce and recipes seldom found in the town.
Moreover, their Hakka Pork Belly Yam served in claypot you will never regret after consumed into mouth. Especially the deep fried pork belly, mixed steamed with yam slices for about 2 hours mixed into with their very homemade sauce recipes brings very traditional hakka eatery, be one of the best in town. Dining in Tong Jing sided with a bowl of their 3 hours slow cooked Pork Trotter Soup also to be recommended which being 40 years generation passed onto Frankie by his father itself.
