Being famously known “Wantan Mee” by the locals in our nation which practised decade ago commonly by chinese religious recently still frequently found and to be one of the chinese favourite eatery easily find everywhere in respective recipes. In the East Coast, Pahang we found and successfully recognised the 45 years history handmade noodles carried by the Wong brothers in Kuantan well known as “La Cha Mee” by visitors.
The local originated late Mr. Wong Kau (1949-2009), the eldest brother, was the initial founder of the local famous Wong’s family wantan mee called “Leo Star” kon lou mee recently. And being continued carried by his other younger brothers Wong Ah Mok (born 1953), Wong Ah Kow (born 1954) and Wong Ah Loy (born 1963) still serving their home traditional handmade noodles to the locals and visitors along Jalan Beserah, Kuantan.
The beginner Wong Kau who stepped into the industry and started his noodles career since year 1970 at his age of 21 years old running his very first noodle stall at Jalan Air Putih, Kuantan introducing his own handmade noodle untill year 1974. Then moved into “Peking Restoran” for a year before into specialized shop.
In year 1976 subsequent to the great response from public and the opportunity grapped, Wong Kau successfully exposed into his very 1st and owned restaurant running the noodle specialized shop along Jalan Beserah (recent location), being joined by brothers respectively where “Leo Star Restoran” wantan mee noodle house began, still running untill recent.
While in year 2009, after the founder Wong Kau passed-away, his 6th brother Wong Ah Loy been taking up the responsibility to take place in the noodles making in order to allow their family career to continue, untill today being recognised as one of the best in town. And also being known as one of the local Kuantan’s delicacy eatery must try when reached Pahang, somehow the noodles quality being improved on Ah Loy’s hand according to the brothers and regulars.
In Leo Star, the owners top recommended in menus surely will be their more than 40 years handmade Wantan Mee or locally known “Kon Lou Mee” and also “La Cha Mee” by visitors, with char siew (roasted pork). Char siew roast for 25 minutes in-house served in cutted slices topped onto their homemade noodles mixed with 3 recipes sauce, and sided with a bowl of wantan (pork dumpling) will be their traditional authentic eatery you must try. Especially taken poured onto their home recipe soup paste, will be the restaurant’s signature like by visitors.
For those who don’t take pork, can try their Chicken Kon Lou Mee which also among the restaurant’s top seller. Chicken boiled half an hour in their home cooked pork bones soup base, prepared in chicken shredded then served topped onto the kon lou mee and sided with bowl of wantan soup you cannot aside.
Another will be their Wantan or Pork Dumpling Soup, is their regulars most wanted and must eat selection in “Leo Star”. Local fresh pork minced prepared mixed with sesame oil, pepper and their secret home spices, then wrapped with flour-made wrapper brings very exotic taste and excellent bites texture you will never regret after taken.
Talking about their home recipe soup paste, which is the restaurant’s signature and the reason for their regulars to come back frequently. Soup paste boiled half an hour insided with mushroom, chicken shredded and home recipes mixture will be the best and only in “Leo Star Restoran” commonly taken poured onto the kon lou mee served you cannot missed when stepped into this restaurant at Kuantan, Pahang.
