THE 30 YEARS AUTHENTIC “MOK FAMILY” HOMEMADE PASTRY INTO 2ND GENERATION RECENTLY IN BENTONG

Homemade Pastry commonly known by chinese were those traditional house baked biscuits been decades practised frequently by the chinese religious, nowadays most of them been replaced by machines or technologies to increase production. But here in a small town in East Coast named Bentong, Pahang we being found and recognised one of the home-baked pastry family “Mok” still running their traditional house-made chinese biscuits or puffs since 1985.
The Kuala Lumpur originated Madam Ng Chong Thai who born in year 1952, been married into “Mok” family then based in Bentong, Pahang was the initial founder of the local well known “Mokie Home-Baked Pastry” introducing her home recipe kaya puffs and pineapple puffs to the locals into 30 years still produced in-house, and recently being generation passed onto her son Mok Han Sze (born 1984), who also the current owner as 2nd generation in their family career.
Madam Ng Chong Thai who at her age of 63 years old recently, all the while was a full time housewife having great interest in homemade eatery initially touced the pastry field and made her very first “Kaya Puff” in year 1985, making using homemade kaya paste made from fresh chicken egg obtained from home-feeded chicken. Later with the encouragement & supports from family members, Madam Ng began to sell her puffs in her sister-in-law mobile beverage stall in front of their house began introduced to the villagers in Kg. Kemansur, Bentong.
Subsequent to the great response from the locals, enabled Madam Ng successfully began her very 1st and owned stall in the Bentong town market in year 1987 selling her puffs to the market with assistance by her husband late Mr. Mok, which still running untill today by her sister-in-law. And in year 1995, her “Mok Family” puffs been available within few towns surrounding Bentong and officially named “Mokie Mok Home-Baked Pastry”.
While next generation Mok Han Sze (Madam Ng’s son) who at his age of 31 years old currently, touched the industry after his college education helping mother on their homemade pastry since 2007. Then in year 2009 been fully stepped into the home career took up the responsibility to continue and further expose his mother’s recipes widely in the market.
Talking about the “Mok Family” home-baked pastry, Han Sze’s first top recommended will surely be his mother’s recipe homemade Kaya Puff. Which 100% prepared with homemade ingredients and recipes. Kaya paste made in-house from fresh coconut milk, chicken egg, sugar and mixtures of their another 8 secret ingredients, then placed into flour-made layers with round in shape, followed by an hour baked then served topped with egg layer brings very authentic eatery you must try when reached Pahang. Especially the homemade kaya taste itself and the puff’s textures in bites.
According to the recent owner Mok Han Sze, all their home-baked puffs will produced in-house from the beginning untill today with 30 years unchanged. And also prepared without any preservatives and artificial colouring to keep the freshness and to allow the locals and visitors to have their traditional homemade puffs which found neither elsewhere only by “Mok Family” in Bentong, Pahang.
Other than Kaya Puffs, the mother and son also introduced their Pineapple Puff which most wanted by the regulars. Pineapple paste cooked up to 7 hours with sugar and other 5 recipe ingredients brings slight sour & sweet in taste, then wrapped with their homemade flour layers and served also in an hour baked you cannot missed when reached Bentong, Pahang. Also available in packing at some of their retails surrounding the town in East Coast with name of “Mokie Mok Home-Baked Pastry”.
