TASTE THE BEST CHINESE CUISINE “MAY FLOWER” AT TANAH RATA, PAHANG CARRIED BY SWEE FAMILY INTO 2ND GENERATION

One of the tourism spot along the Cameron Highland, the “Tanah Rata” found not only western food restaurants but also lots of chinese cuisine eating houses practised on respective recipes on the highland.  Among the best we found to be recognised, the “May Flower” chinese restaurant currently running into 2nd generation, since 1987.

The Perak originated Mr. Swee Pooi Choy who born in year 1945 was the founder, and together with his wife Madam Yoon Ah Yin (born 1947) both were the immediate owners of the well known “May Flower Restaurant” chinese cuisine eating house at Tanah Rata, Cameron Highland introducing most of their home recipes selection to the locals and visitors into 30 years.  Currently being running by sons Swee Kuan Wei (born 1973) and Swee Kuan Hoe (born 1981).

Swee Pooi Choy who at his age of 70 years old recently, been reached Tanah Rata in year 1959 under-employed as retail helper later on was a Taxi driver, initially stepped into the f&b industry since year 1987 at his 42th established his very 1st restaurant named “May Flower Restaurant” along the Tanah Rata Township began his career in the field.  While Pooi Choy’s wife, Madam Yoon who also from Perak formerly was a Hair Stylist exposed on Cameron Highland initially stepped into the f&b industry joined husband in their restaurant from year 1993.  Then moved to Persiaran Camelli, Tanah Rata in 2008 running untill today.

The elder son Swee Kuan Wei who at his age of 42 years old recently, also the restaurant’s chef today been touched the career since his 13th helping parents in the restaurant positioned as chef at his 23rd of age.  And being given opportunity to took over the family career as 2nd generation since year 2008, together with younger brother Swee Kuan Hoe who at his 34th recently.

In May Flower, the Chef’s first top recommended in menus will be their Drunken Steamboat which is the only on Cameron Highland.  Soup base boiled with herbals mixed with their in-house 4 recipe ingredients, then served with slight rice wine poured into brings fantastic herbal & sweet taste you must try when looking for steamboat in Tanah Rata, Pahang.

Secondly will be their Fried Dragon Mustache with Salted Egg, which is the Cameron Highland’s local delicacy vegetable and one of their restaurant’s top seller.  Fresh local planted dragon mustache veges prepared in dry fried with salted egg yolk patse brings very exotic and salty taste you will never regret after taken.

Another will be their Deep Fried Mushroom, also the most wanted signature by their regulars.  Local fresh abalone mushroom selected, deep fried with their recipe flour prepared from mixtures of 4 flours brings authentic crispy and texture bites eatery best in town you cannot aside.

Moreover, their Tasty Spicy Spare Ribs also among recommended in May Flower on their chef Kuan Wei’s home recipe.  Fresh pork ribs selected, marinated overnight with his 8 ingredients mixture, followed in deep fried then served after seconds fried with in-house spices brings exotic salty & spicy taste you will like it.

Nonetheless, the owners also introduced their Sweet & Sour Fish on home recipe sauce paste.  Talapia fish commonly prepared in deep fried, then served poured onto homemade sauce and topped with onions and veges shredded brings appertising choice you cannot missed when stepped into the “May Flower Restaurant” at Tanah Rata, Cameron Highland Pahang.
