Kwan Chen Chiong who at his age of 53 year old today, been touched the f&b industry since his age of twenties in Tawau, Sabah began as kitchen trainee on chinese cuisine for about half a year then further his education. Later on at his 26th, Chen Chiong fully stepped into the career bodied with father running their rice platter eating house “Fair Wood Restaurant” from 1989 to 1996 in hometown Sandakan. Then established his very first owned chinese & seafood restaurant named “Sky On Sky” for more than 10 years, where his wife Nyuk Lan began to assist and stepped into the industry.
In order to expose further, and foreseen the market opportunity added with the mission to introduce family’s home generation recipes, Chen Chiong reached Kota Kinabalu in year 2005 continue his exposure in the career. Finally in year 2014 concentrating his traditional homemade hakka foods menu to the locals in “Metro Hakka Food” eating house at Metro Town, Kelombong and having great response from the public currently.
In this Hakka Food restaurant, the founder’s first top recommended in menus will be their Century Egg Dumpling which is among the Sandakan’s local delicacy eatery taken since hundred year ago. Mixtures of century egg and fresh pork minced, prepared wrapped in flour-made wrapper, then boil-cooked 5 minutes in their in-house an hour boiled soup base from pork bones and ikan bilis brings the best dumpling bites texture and delicious taste into mouth. Totally different from the pork dumpling or locally known “Wantan” in market.
Secondly will be their Deep Fried Pork Noodles, which also among the Sandakan’s famous local eatery most wanted by the visitors. Pork chop selected and marinated with recipes about half hour, then deep fried with flour, finally served in cutted slices topped onto the homemade flour noodles or known “Dan Gong Mee” will be a complete set of Sandakan’s pork noodles you must try when reached Sabah.
