“Teochew Porridge”, which been decade as favourite eatery by those Teo Chew chinese religious that differ from the cantonese and hainanese porridge too wanted by those Singapore’s locals recently, easily found everywhere on the lion island today.  Here at the Newton Food Centre we found and successfully recognised the year 2017 best Teochew Fish Porridge specialist “Song Kee” running into 2nd generation for more than half century (60 years) under the roof.

The local Singaporean, Mr. Sunny Yio Ging Chua who born year 1959 is the current immediate owner of this recommended “Newton Authentic Song Kee Teochew Fish Porridge”, as 2nd generation continue his family’s career still serving their home recipe Teo Chew fish porridge and soup menus to the locals and visitors along the Clemenceau Avenue North, Newton Singapore since 1950s.

The founder, Sunny’s father late Mr. Yio Yee Rong (pronouns) who was a Teochews’, began his very initial first roadside food stall introducing his homemade Teochew Fish Porridge at Orchard, Singapore in early 1950s later moved into Newton Food Centre in year 1976 where elder son started to continue father’s position. Then officially named the “Song Kee Teochew Fish Porridge”, assisted by Sunny.

While Sunny Yio, the recent owner, who at his age of 58 years old currently been touched the family career since his age of 8th helping parents in their food stall.  Later in 1970s assisting elder brother in Newton, made him took up the responsibility to continue family’s recipe as second generation in year 1992 in Newton Food Centre further his exposure on their “Newton Authentic Song Kee Teochew Fish Porridge” under the same roof in manner.

In Song Kee Fish Porridge, the owner Sunny Yio’s first top recommended in menus surely will be their more than 60 years 2-generation home recipe Teochew Fish Porridge which most wanted by the public. Soup base boiled nearly an hour with mixtures of ikan bilis, fish bones and added into their in-house secret recipes. Then boil-cooked into with white rice and fresh local batang fish slices brings unbeliveable authentic fish freshness eatery you must try.

Bowl of this Song Kee’s authentic Teochew Porridge served topped with fresh veges shredded, deep fried onions & marinated veges and home made ginger shredded brings a complete “Newton Song Kee Teochew Fish Porridge” neither found better in town.  Especially the freshness & fish meat bites texture into mouth, also the exotic soup base taste by Yio’s family recipe.

Another signature menu by Sunny will be their Fish Head Mee Hon, which also among their daily top seller recently. Fresh batang fish head prepared in cutted pieces, deep fried with flour recipe, served topped onto boil-cooked mee hon (fine rice noodles) in their home soup base brings another cannot aside eatery when you stepped towards Song Kee at Newton, Singapore.
