“Wanton Mee” or called by the local’s chinese as “Tok-Tok Mee” decade ago, still among the most wanted & favourite eatery in our nation which can be found everywhere easily all presented on respective recipes. Here at Damansara Utama, we finally found the more than 60 years history “Pudu Chan Fatt Wanton Mee” running by the second generation Megan Wong brought it back into market, being successfully recognised as the best Wanton Noodles in town.
The China immigrant late Mr. Wong Poon (1917-2008), was the initial founder, reached Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at his age of 7 years old been touched the f&b industry worked as Kopikia (Kopitiam’s young worker) at Pudu. Later at his teenage been experienced the Wanton Mee career when running with his master’s homemade Sui Gau (Pork Dumpling) & Wanton Noodles stall also at Pudu.
In 1950s, Wong Poon who mastered the skill in making wanton noodles by kneading and rolling with bamboo pole, began his very first roadside noodle stall with wife Madam Lee Yit Yee (born 1928) who also has great culinary skills serving their homemade Char Siew (Roasted Pork) and Pork Dumpling wanton mee at Pudu Market. Then in 1960s successfully moved into bigger space established their very owned Wanton Mee shop named “Chan Fatt Wanton Mee” stayed about 30 years there. And fully retired in year 1997.
While Wong Poon’s daughter Ms. Megan Wong Yoke Chan (born 1961), as next generation who also the immediate owner of this recognised best “Pudu Chan Fatt Wanton Mee” noodle house been touched the family’s career since kids helping parents. With the strong encouragement from mother and foreseen the market opportunity in the f&b industry made Megan Wong decided to bring back into market her parent’s “Chan Fatt Wanton Mee” started her specialized shop at Damansara Uptown in year 2017, having great response from the public.
In “Pudu Chan Fatt”, the owner’s first top recommended in menus surely will be their more than half century “Authentic Wanton Mee” which still presenting on parent’s home recipe. Springy egg made noodles, boil-cooked and mixed with their in-house sauce made from more than 10 ingredients mixture, then topped with huge chopped 2-hours home-roasted pork (Char Siew) & veges, also served sided with a bowl of 4-hours boiled soup base with hand-wrapped Wanton (Small Pork Dumpling) brings a complete set of their authentic “Chan Fatt Wanton Mee” that you must try when reached Damansara Utama. Especially the char siew’s bites texture and juicy wanton into mouth.
Secondly will be their signature “Shrimp Dumpling” (Sui Gau), which also among the restaurant’s daily best seller favourite by the regulars. Mixtures of fresh shrimp, black fungus shredded, minced pork, carrot shredded and chopped water chestnut, then hand-wrapped and boil-cooked in about few minutes, finally served in home soup base brings excellent juicy bites and exotic taste you neither found better elsewhere in town.
Another will be their “Curry Laksa”, which most wanted by their visitors who like spicy. In-house curry paste prepared in 2 hours from mixtures of more than 10 spices ingredient, then boiled with soup base, served topped with either boiled chicken meat, char siew, wanton or shrimp dumpling on customer’s request, and sided with dried beancurd (Tau Pok) and beancurd sheet (Tau Kee) brings their complete bowl of delicious Curry Laksa you cannot aside.
Besides, Megan also introduced her own recipe “Lion Head Meat Ball” which among their famous menu recently. The mixtures of minced pork, veges and sengkuang handmade in balls, followed by 3-minutes deep fried brings unbelievable meat’s texture & juicy bites into mouth you will never regret after tasted. This meat ball can be served either in soup or with wanton noodles on customer’s request.
Nonetheless, the owner Megan Wong also taken the opportunity to introduce their “Mushroom Chicken Feet”, which prepared in an hour stewed with deep-fried chicken feets, mushrooms, chinese herbals and gingers brings slight exotic herbal taste you cannot missed when stepped into this 60 years history recipe’s noodle house “Pudu Chan Fatt Wanton Mee” at Damansara Utama (Uptown), Petaling Jaya.
