PRESENTING THE BEST MOTHER’S PORRIDGE

Mr. Wong Kwong Kheun who was the founder and recently the owner of the famous “Mother Porridge” restaurant operating together with the accompany by his wife Ms. Florence Chen Lee Fong, who formerly a hair stylist and owned a studio previously.

The home made own traditional porridge recipe came from Mr. Wong’s mother named Madam Lee Yuk King, who been previously in the year 1970s running her little porridge food stall at Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur.  About Mr. Wong, he initially stepped into the food and beverage industry in the year 1985 as trainee chef in ‘Chai Kee’ food stall at Jalan Pudu, Kuala Lumpur for about 4 years.  Afterwards, he fly over to Japan further explore his experience in a Taiwanese cuisine restaurant in the year 1989 for another 4 years, there he gained lots of chinese traditional porridge recipe and experience.  However, he back to home country in the year 1993 and been joined the construction industry in order to find his better future career but unfortunately due to economy crisis, he quit the industry in the year 1999.  Later, he decided to again stepped back into f&b industry by the combination of his mother’s home made porridge recipe and his experience gained in Taiwan, he established and founded the “Mother Porridge” roadside stall in the year 2000 at Taman Muda, Cheras starting with only 3 tables at that moment.  After two years, he moved his porridge stall to Pandan Perdana in the year 2002.  From there, lots of the locals started to accept and his business starting to grow results him able to further expose his career into a shoplot at Pandan Perdana, Cheras which will be his 1st Mother Porridge restaurant in the year 2005 and another outlet at Mahkota Commercial Centre Cheras in the year 2011.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Recently, there are about 50 choice in their menus in the restaurant not only at porridge side but also the secondary dishes.  Among the famous, their mixed pork porridge will be the best selling in the restaurant.  The smooth of the porridge itself and freshness of the pork ingredient especially their very own recipe deep fried pork testile topped made the most wanted by their regular customers.  Another, the pork preserved salted egg mixed with minced meat and century egg will too the best recommended in the restaurant.  Of course, in chinese traditional porridge legend must have to serve together with ‘Kong Pou Frog’.  For them, the ‘Claypoy Kong Pou Frog’ with dry chili and their own recipe sauce brings the undescribable spicy taste will be the excellent combination together their white clear smooth porridge.  The ‘Claypot Eel with Sesame Oil’ and ‘Deep Fried Pork Testile’ also the most wanted by the customers.  Lastly, their ‘Mother Deep Fried Tau Foo’ which made from the combination of fish, prawn, cuttlefish and mushroom will be one of the most succeessful creation by Mr. Wong.
